James Corden is an English actor, comedian, writer, and television show host. He’s best known for hosting The Late Late Show with James Corden on CBS. He’s also the creator of the British sitcom, Gavin & Stacey. James Kimberley Corden was born on August 22, 1978, in Hillingdon, London. His father, Malcolm, is a former musician, and his mother, Margaret, worked as a social worker. He has two sisters, Andrea and Ruth. Corden grew up in Hazlemere, Buckinghamshire where he attended Holmer Green Upper School. He took acting lessons at the Jackie Palmer Stage School.
CAREER
Corden landed his first stage role in the 1996 production of the musical Martin Guerre. He followed up with appearances in the television series, Renford Rejects, Boyz Unlimited, and Hollyoaks. He held a recurring role as “Jamie Rymer” in the series Fat Friends (200-05), and later as “Jeremy” in the drama series Teachers (2001-03). Corden gained further recognition for his role as “Timms” in Alan Bennett’s critically acclaimed play, The History Boys. His early film credits included Twenty Four Seven (1997), Whatever Happened to Harold Smith? (1999) and All or Nothing (2002). He was featured in the comedy-drama film, Starter for 10 (2006), with James McAvoy.
In 2006, Corden and Ruth Jones co-created the romantic sitcom, Gavin & Stacey. The show ran on BBC from May 2007 to January 2010 for a total of 20 episodes. Corden’s character was Neil “Smithy” Smith. He won a British Comedy Award for Best Male Comedy Newcomer and a BAFTA Award for Best Comedy Performance. Corden began hosting the British sports-based program, A League of Their Own, in 2010. He narrated the 2011 animated show, Little Charley Bear, on BBC. Corden starred as “Francis Henshall” in Richard Bean’s play One Man, Two Guvnors (2011-12). His performance earned him a Tony Award for Best Actor in a play.
In 2014, Corden replaced Craig Ferguson as the new host of The Late Late Show on CBS. His first episode was on March 23, 2015, with celebrity guest Tom Hanks. Other guests over the years included Will Ferrell, David Beckham, Russell Crowe, and Benedict Cumberbatch. Corden’s recent films include One Chance (2013) with Julie Walters, Into the Woods (2014) with Meryl Streep, and Trolls (2016) with Anna Kendrick. He voices the title character “Peter Rabbit” in the upcoming animated film Peter Rabbit (2018).
