James Comey is an American lawyer and former Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Prior to that, he served as the United States Attorney General. James Brien Comey, Jr. was born on December 14, 1960, in Yonkers, New York. His father, James, worked in corporate real estate, and his mother, Joan, a computer consultant. He has three siblings, Peter, Christopher, and Patricia. Comey was raised in Allendale, New Jersey, where he attended Northern Highlands Regional High School. He earned his BS degree from the College of William and Mary (1982) and his JD from the University of Chicago Law School (1985).

CAREER
Comey began his legal career as a law clerk for Judge John M. Walker, Jr. in New York City. He later worked as an associate for the law firm, Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. Comey became an assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York in 1987. There he served under Rudy Giuliani until 1993. During his tenure, he helped with the prosecution of the notorious Gambino crime family. Comey partnered with the McGuireWoods law firm in 1993. He served as assistant attorney general for Virginia’s Eastern District from 1996 to 2001.

Comey served as U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York from January 2002 to December 2003. He held office as the United States Deputy Attorney General from December 2003 to August 2005 under President George W. Bush. Comey was nominated by President Barack Obama to head the FBI in June 2013. His nomination was confirmed and he was sworn into office on September 4, 2013. He succeeded the retired Robert Mueller. Comey oversaw the FBI’s investigation of the Hillary Clinton email controversy. He’s also headed the investigation of President Donald Trump‘s wiretapping claims. He was fired on May 9, 2017, by Trump.

Comey was a member of the Republican Party for most of his life. He became an Independent voter in 2016. He’s supported past presidential candidates such as Senator John McCain and Governor Mitt Romney.

James Comey is 6ft 8in tall and he’s of Irish descent. His net worth is estimated at $14 million. He’s invested in such companies as Exxon Mobil, Berkshire Hathaway, and Pepsico. Comey is married to his wife ‘Patrice Failor’. They have five children: Kate, Maurene, Brien, Abby, and Claire. A sixth child, Collin, died from a bacterial infection in August 1995.
