ORIGIN Edit
Hailing from Chicago, Illinois, Hitmaka (Yung Berg) is a multi-talented hip-hop artist, songwriter, and record producer. He’s worked with DMX’s Bloodline Records, Epic Records, and Atlantic Records among other labels. Berg’s discography includes the album, Look What You Made Me (2008), the EP, Almost Famous (2007), and upwards of 15 mixtapes. Standout singles include “Sexy Lady”, “Sexy Can I”, “Do That There” and “The Business.” Upon rebranding to Hitmaka, he dropped “Thot Box” single featuring Meek Mill, 2 Chainz, YBN Nahmir, A Boogie wit da Hoodie & Tyga.

Given name, Christian Howard Ward, he was born on September 9, 1985, in Chicago, Illinois. He kicked off his hip-hop career in the early 2000s under the name “Iceberg.” Ward learned the art of production by simply hanging around recording studios with the likes of Kanye West and No I.D. In 2001, he inked a recording contract with DMX’s Bloodline Records, this time as “Yung Berg.” Later that year he appeared on the single “Dog 4 Life” from the Exit Wounds soundtrack. Despite showing great promise, Ward was forced to put his music career on hold. His parents enrolled him in a military boarding school in Montana (2001-03). He would later move to Los Angeles to pursue music.

CAREER
Berg returned to the music scene in 2005. He worked with fellow Chicago rapper Shawnna (Disturbing tha Peace). Around this time, Berg founded his own imprint ‘Yung Boss Records’ (now Yung Fly Movement). His debut single “Sexy Lady” (feat. Junior) dropped on April 3, 2007. It peaked at #18 on the Billboard Hot 100 and at #16 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The song’s success led to a recording contract with Epic Records. Yung Berg’s debut EP, Almost Famous, arrived in July 2007 via Yung Boss and Epic. It debuted at #32 on the Billboard charts and sold 20,000 units during opening week. The project featured a remix of “Sexy Lady” with Jim Jones, Junior, and Rich Boy.

In 2007, Yung Berg appeared on singles “B!tch Please” by Lil Wayne and “Lonely” by Collie Buddz. He was featured in the visual for “Whine Up” by Kat DeLuna. Berg dropped his full-length debut, Look What You Made Me, in August 2008. It was released via Koch Records and featured productions from Rob Holladay, JFK, Boogz, and a few others. The album secured a top-20 placement on the Billboard 200 with songs like “Do That There”, “The Business” and “Sexy Can I” with Ray J. Additionally, Berg dropped a total of 4 mixtapes in 2008. He was featured on Nipsey Hussle‘s single “Karma” alongside Cap-1 & Question.

Berg released the first 3 installments of his ‘Twitter Muzic’ mixtape series in 2009. That year also saw him collaborating with Pitbull, Ludacris and Hot Dollar. Berg co-wrote songs “Want Some More”, “Favorite” and “Buy a Heart” for Nicki Minaj‘s 3rd album, The Pinkpring (2014). He also lent his vocal to the track “Shanghai.” His later projects include 2016’s ‘Mo Money Mo Condoms’ and ‘Reality Check.’ In 2017, Ward was named VP of A&R (Atlantic Records).

Ward currently uses the “Hitmaka” moniker. His hit track “Thot Box” (via Atlantic Records) premiered in September 2019. It sparked a remixed version featuring Chinese Kitty, DreamDoll, Dreezy, Mulatto and Young M.A. Also in 2019, Hitmaka produced songs for the likes of Chris Brown, Tinashe, 2 Chainz and PnB Rock among others. His songwriting credits include K. Michelle‘s “Ain’t You”, Big Sean‘s “Bounce Back”, Chris Brown’s “Questions” and Ty Dolla Sign‘s “Pineapple.” His upcoming album, Big Tuh, is slated for 2020.
