Glenne Headly was an American film, television, and theater actress. She starred as “Janet Colgate” in the comedy film, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988), and as “Iris Holland” in the drama, Mr. Holland’s Opus (1995). Her television credits include Lonesome Dove, Encore! Encore!, and ER. Glenne Aimee Headly was born on March 13, 1955, in New London, Connecticut. She attended the High School of Performing Arts in New York, followed by the American College of Switzerland in Leysin, Switzerland. She also studied ballet and modern dance as a child.

Headly returned to the United States after college. Her first notable role was in a Goodman Theatre production of ‘Curse of the Starving Class’. She later joined Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theater Company. There she worked alongside upcoming stars like Gary Sinise and Laurie Metcalf. Headly’s work in Chicago earned her 3 Joseph Jefferson Award for best-supporting actress. Her stage credits include Charley’s Aunt, Extremities, The Philanthropist, Balm in Gilead, and Arms and the Man.

Headly’s film debut was the comedy-drama, Four Friends (1981). The film was directed by Arthur Penn and stars Craig Wasson and Jodi Thelen. She followed up with supporting roles in films like Seize the Day (1986) with Robin Williams, and Nadine (1987) with Jeff Bridges. Headly was cast as “Janet Colgate” opposite Steve Martin and Michael Caine in the comedy, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988).
