ORIGIN
Hailing from Duval County, Julio Foolio was an American rapper out of Jacksonville, Florida. In 2018, he became popular after releasing tracks like “Crooks,” “Slide,” and “Voodoo.” His discography included Life of Me (2022), Final Destination (2023), and Resurrection (2024).
Foolio was born Charles Jones on June 21, 1998, in the Sunshine State. He attended high school but did not graduate. In 9th grade, Foolio stopped attending classes and dropped out. Around that time, at age 16, he was involved in an incident in which he was shot at while exiting a school bus. When the smoke cleared, Foolio was hit once in the leg.
Though he always rapped, after quitting school, Foolio started focusing more on music. With no money to fund his passion, he had to seek employment. Foolio described Jacksonville, specifically the north, as a war zone. In an interview, he explained that his surrounding was like every other hood; a lot of killing, hustling, and police activity. Growing up, he lost quite a few family members and close friends to the streets.
CAREER
In 2015, after releasing “Coming Up” ft Stunt & Los, Foolio began receiving local recognition. Racking up thousands of streams, he was now getting booked at local nightclubs and venues. From there on, his career started taking shape. The following year, he dropped hot singles, “Reach The Top” ft TJ, “Dirty Sticks” alongside Soulja K, and “Just Talk.” With over a million new streams, he continued to keep Jacksonville buzzing. In 2016, he released 2 mixtapes, “Who Am I” and “Everyday Dreday” alongside Soulja K.
Within the next 2 years, Foolio would become a bona fide new rapper. In addition to being featured on WorldStarHipHop, his tracks were now pulling in waves of new listeners. Aside from YouTube, his music was streamed immensely over SoundCloud and Spotify. In 2017, Foolio’s single “Feel It” stood out amongst the pack. Later that year he introduced the project, Industry Invasion.
In 2018, his breakout year, Foolio released some of his best work. Standout tracks like “Crooks,” “Slide,” and “Voodoo” helped his career blossom. Earning exclusive features on WSHH, he certainly made a name for himself. Foolio’s personal YouTube channel now has over 300 million views. In July 2018, he released the mixtape, 6Toven. The 12-track project, featuring no artist, was led by “Crooks.” In January 2019, he dropped the mix, Never Wanted Fame. That project has since garnered millions of streams. Throughout his career, Foolio’s list of collaborators included 9lokkNine, and Yk Osiris among others. He also worked with producer Zaytoven.
