Ettore Scola was an Italian film director and screenwriter. He was born on May 10, 1931 in Trevico, Avellino. He studied law at the Sapienza University of Rome but he never practiced.

CAREER
Scola started out as a screenwriter in 1953. He made his directorial debut on the 1964 film, Let’s Talk About Women. He gained early success with the films ‘We All Loved Each Other So Much’ and ‘Down and Dirty’. Scola directed over 40 films including ‘A Special Day (1977)’ and ‘What Time Is It? (1989)’. He was awarded a Golden Globe for his work on ‘A Special Day’. His 1981 drama film ‘Passion of Love’ was adopted into an award winning musical.

Ettore Scola died on January 19, 2016 at the age of 84. His death came days after being admitted to a Rome hospital’s cardiac surgery unit. He was married to Gigliola Fantoni. He had two daughters; Silvia and Paola.
