Etika was an American YouTuber, video game reviewer, and social media personality. He rose to prominence on YouTube playing, streaming, and reviewing Nintendo games. Etika went missing on June 19, 2019, shortly after posting a suicide video on YouTube. On June 22, 2019, some of his personal belongings including his NYS driver’s license and cell phone were found along the Manhattan Bridge in New York City. On June 25, 2019, the NYPD revealed that an unidentified body was pulled from the East River. The body was later confirmed to be Etika’s.

Etika was born Daniel Desmond Amofah on May 12, 1990, in Brooklyn, New York. He had multiple siblings, including a younger brother from New Jersey. His father, Emmanuel Owuraku Amofah, was a lawyer and politician from south Ghana. Emmanuel served as a board member for the Parliament of Ghana (1992-96) and founded his own political party, the Every Ghanaian Living Everywhere Party (now defunct).

CAREER
Etika launched his YouTube channel ‘ewnetwork’ in July 2012. His first upload was titled “Rare Atari Game Found In Storage Sells For Over $33,000.” He shared primarily Nintendo game reviews and reactions (Nintendo Direct, Smash Bros, etc). The channel also featured reactions to popular animes shows like One Punch Man, and Attack On Titan. Since his debut, Etika has gained more than 800K subscribers and more than 2 million views. However, On October 25, 2018, his channel was terminated after he violated YouTube content guidelines. Following the ban, Etika reverted back to his old YouTube channel ‘TR1Iceman.’ It has 130K+ subscribers. His last batch of uploads included “Minecraft In Real Life” and “Pokemon Direct Tomorrow.”

In addition to YouTube, Etika occasionally streamed on the Twitch platform. He had more than 5 thousand followers on his ‘ewnetwork’ account. His previous Twitch account ‘etikaworldnetwork’ was banned in 2018 after he used a racial slur on stream. Etika also had a large following on social media. His Twitter boasted 320K+ followers and he’s shared more than 11K tweets. He had another 240K+ followers on Instagram.

Etika was around 6ft 4in tall and he was of Ghanaian and French descent. He claimed to be 6ft 6in on his stream. His net worth was estimated at $100 thousand USD prior to his death. Etika once dated a girl named Christine. His last known ex was Alice Pika. Etika’s mental breakdown began in October 2018. He posted pornographic content on YouTube which led to his channel being banned. His second major breakdown occurred in April 2019, with him posting suicidal threats on social media. He was taken into police custody later that month while live streaming on Instagram. On May 1, 2019, he got into an altercation with police officers and was subsequently taken to a mental hospital.

Etika’s last YouTube video “I’m Sorry” was posted on June 19, 2019. In the 8-minute suicide video, he stated: “I’m sorry for leaving such a stained legacy.” The video had since been removed. Etika was confirmed missing by the NYPD on June 20, 2019. Following the hunt, several of his personal belongings were found on Manhattan bridge in New York City. These items included his NYS driver’s license, his cell phone, his Nintendo switch, headphones, and a laptop bag. On June 25, 2019, the NYPD revealed that they had recovered a male body from the East River. The body was later confirmed to be Desmond Amofah better known as Etika. His reported cause of death was suicide by drowning. He was 29.
