Danny Brown is an American rapper best known for his unique personality and fashion sense. He surfaced on the music front, releasing several mixtapes between 2007 and 2010. His studio albums include The Hybrid (2010), XXX (2011), Old (2013), and Atrocity Exhibition (2016). He won the 2013 Woodie Award for best video for “Grown Up.” Brown was born Daniel Dewan Sewell on March 16, 1981, in Detroit, Michigan. His parents separated when he was a teenager. Brown began dealing drugs at age 18 and caught his first case at 19. He had several other run-ins with the law. One of his cases resulted in an 8-months jail sentence. He was released in 2007.

CAREER
Brown started his music career as a member of the hip-hop group Rese’vor Dogs. The other members were his cousins Chip$ and Dopehead. Their first project, Runispokets-N-Dumpemindariva, was released in 2003. It was supported by the single “Yes.” Brown’s debut solo mixtape, Detroit State of Mind, was independently released in August 2007. A second tape, Hot Soup, followed in 2008. Three more installments of the ‘Detroit State of Mind’ mixtape were released between 2008 and 2010. Brown’s debut studio album, The Hybrid, was released in March 2010 on the Rappers I Know label. It featured production from Quelle, Nick Speed, and Frank Dukes among others. A deluxe version of the album was made available in early 2011. Brown and G-Unit rapper Tony Yayo dropped their joint mixtape ‘Hawaiian Show’ in September 2010. It featured Lil B on the tracks “Trippin'” and “Trap Ball.”

In March 2011, Brown inked a recording deal with the independent label Fool’s Gold Records. The label is based in Brooklyn, New York. His Fool’s Gold debut, XXX, was released in August 2011. It received positive reviews from critics. Brown’s third studio album, Old, arrived in October 2013. The album peaked at #18 on the Billboard 200, #4 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop chart, and #3 on the Top Rap Albums chart. It featured guest appearances from Freddie Gibbs, Schoolboy Q, ASAP Rocky and a few others. Brown performed the theme song “Fresh Off the Boat” for the ABC sitcom of the same name. The series was renewed for a 5th season in May 2018.

Brown signed with Warp Records in June 2016. His fourth album, Atrocity Exhibition, followed in September 2016. The album included productions from Black Milk and The Alchemist. It was supported by the singles “When It Rain”, “Pneumonia” and “Really Doe” featuring Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul and Earl Sweatshirt. Brown’s 2017 documentary ‘Live at the Majestic’ was shelved by Apple Music. It was originally scheduled for a November 2017 release. Brown premiered his ‘Twitch EP’ in August 2018. The track-list includes “Funeral Lines”, “Cut It Up” and “Choppa Choppa.” Brown was featured in the crime-drama film, White Boy Rick (2018), starring Matthew McConaughey. He was cast as “Black Ed.”
