Daniel Caesar is a Canadian R&B/soul vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist. His discography includes the album, Freudian (2017), and the EPs, Pilgrim’s Paradise (2015), and Praise Break (2014). He’s collaborated with H.E.R., Kali Uchis, Sean Leon and Anderson Paak to name a few. Caesar co-founded the record label ‘Golden Child Recordings’ with producers Matthew Burnett and Jordan Evans. His accolades over the years include a Grammy, a Juno Award, and 2 Soul Train Music Awards.

Caesar was born Ashton Simmonds on April 5, 1995, in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. He’s 1 of 4 children. His parents are Hollace and Norwill Simmonds (a gospel singer). Caesar’s family are Seventh-Day Adventists. He attended a Christian private school in Oshawa. He was reportedly kicked out for selling weed. 2016 saw the release of non-album singles “Won’t Live Here” and “Japanese Denim.” Caesar’s hit single “Get You” featuring Kali Uchis premiered in October 2016. It racked up millions of streams and peaked at #1 on the Adult R&B Songs chart. The supporting music video has been viewed 80+ million times on YouTube. It was directed by Liam MacRae. Following the success of Get You, Caesar began performing more frequently at concerts and music festivals.

Freudian, Caesar’s debut solo album, was released in August 2017 by Golden Child Recordings. It was supported by the aforementioned single “Get You” in addition to “We Find Love” and “Blessed.” The album peaked at #16 on the Canadian Albums chart and #25 on the Billboard 200. Freudian featured guest appearances from H.E.R., Charlotte Day Wilson, and Syd. The production was handled by Jordan Evans, Matthew Burnett, BadBadNotGood, and a few others. Freudian was nominated for 3 Grammy Awards, including a win for best R&B performance for the single “Best Part.” The album was further supported by the Freudian Wold Tour from October 2017 in the United States to March 2018 in Australia.

In 2018, Caesar appeared on Peter CottonTale’s single “Forever Always” and later on “Beauty & Essex” by The Free Nationals. His sole single of 2018 “Who Hurt You?” was released on October 16 by Golden Child Recordings. It amassed 8+ million streams across SoundCloud and YouTube in the first 6 months. Caesar has made appearances on TV programs like Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Late Late Show With James Corden and Light Night with Seth Meyers. He was a featured performer at the 2018 Soul Train Awards in Las Vegas, Nevada.
