ORIGIN 
Cortez Kennedy was an American NFL player and Pro Football Hall of Famer. He played 11 seasons with the Seattle Seahawks and made 8 Pro Bowl appearances. Kennedy was born on August 23, 1968, in Osceola, Arkansas. He stood 6ft 3in tall and played the defensive tackle position. He was raised by his mother Ruby Harris and stepfather Joe Harris. Kennedy attended Rivercrest High School followed by Northwest Mississippi Community College. He continued his education at the University of Miami on a football scholarship.
CAREER
Kennedy played college football at the University of Miami. He helped the Hurricanes to an NCAA Division I FBS championship in 1989. He was also named an All-American in 1989. Kennedy was selected by the Seattle Seahawks with the 3rd overall pick in the 1990 NFL draft. He played a total of 11 seasons from 1990 to 2000. He was named First-Team All-Rookie by the PFWA. Kennedy made 6 consecutive Pro Bowl appearances from 1991 to 1996. He made two more appearances from 1998 to 1999. He was named 1992 NFL Defensive Player of the Year after recording 14 quarterback sacks.
Throughout his professional career, Kennedy played 167 games and recorded 668 tackles, 58 sacks, and 3 interceptions. He was a 3x First-team All-Pro and 2x Second-team All-Pro. His honors also include the Seattle Seahawk’s Ring of Honor and the NFL 1990s All-Decade Team. Kennedy was inducted into the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame in 2004 and into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2012. His #96 jersey was retired by the Seahawks in 2012. Kennedy sat out the 2001 season and retired officially in 2002. Post-NFL, he served as an advisor for the New Orleans Saints. He was also an ambassador for the Seahawks.

Cortez Kennedy died on May 23, 2017, at the age of 48. No official cause of death was given. According to the Orlando Police Department, there was nothing suspicious about his death. He was found dead at his home in Orlando, Florida. Kennedy was married once, to his wife ‘Nicole Sanders’. The marriage ended in divorce in 1996. Kennedy is survived by his daughter, Courtney.
