JT was born on December 3, 1992, in Liberty City, Miami, Fl. Her pair, Yung Miami, was born on February 11, 1994, in Opa-locka, Miami, Fl.

Both grew up in rough cities and faced early obstacles. In 2010, still in their early teens, they met in middle school. Their mothers, who had a taste for wealthy men, had a major impact on their upbringing; a fact that becomes evident in their lyrics. City Girls started recording after an altercation with other females. They connected with producer and friend MajorNine and purchased a beat. What was supposed to be a female diss track turned into a boycott of broke boys. JT grew up listening to gospel, while her pair tuned into Trina and Jacki-O.

CAREER
In August 2017, City Girls recorded their breakout single “F*ck Dat N*gga.” The raunchy track which promoted female independence featured a splice from Khia’s 2002 hit single “My Neck My Back.” Shortly after its release, their career came to a halt as JT was arrested for credit card fraud. Yung Miami was faced with the task of promoting the track alone. She strategically promoted the song by sharing it on her Instagram account and by tipping off DJs at clubs for plays.

The song began blowing up while JT was in custody. After her release on bond, City Girls started getting booked frequently. Their fast ascent under the radar caught the attention of, future manager, Stanley Gabart. He, in turn, connected them with Quality Control Music’s executive Coach K. Despite being reluctant at first, they ultimately inked a deal with the record label in December 2017.

In May, they released their first album “Period.” The project was spearheaded by singles “Tighten Up”, “I’ll Take Your Man”, and “Where The Bag At.”

In one of City Girls’ biggest collaborations to date, they worked with Canadian music mogul Drake on the hit single “In My Feelings.” The track was featured on his fifth studio album “Scorpion”, released in June of 2018. The song became the standout track on the album and graced the #1 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. With no hint of backing down, the duo received massive exposure and was presented with an excellent opportunity to advance.

Once again, their career took a back seat as JT had to turn herself in to fulfill her sentence. Initially facing 10 years in prison, she took a plea deal and got 24 months. She is scheduled to be released in March of 2020. In the wake of her sentence, Yung Miami continues to hold down the fort. In November 2018, their second album “Girl Code” hit the airwaves. The project featured the likes of Cardi B, Lil Baby, and Jacquees. Standout tracks included “Twerk”, “Season”, and “Act Up.”

In January 2019, City girls released the music video for “Twerk.” It instantly went viral raking in over 8 million streams in just 1 day.
