Charlize Theron is a South African-born actress, film producer, and animal rights activist. She became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 2007. Her film credits include Monster (2003), North Country (2005), Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), and Atomic Blonde (2017). Theron was born on August 7, 1975, in Benoni, South Africa. She’s an only child. Her parents were Gerda Maritz and Charles Theron. They owned a road construction company called Charles and Gerda. Theron attended Putfontein Primary School followed by the National School of the Arts in Johannesburg. She also trained at the Joffrey Ballet School in the United States.

Theron started out as a dancer and model prior to her acting career. She landed her first modeling contract at the age of 16.
