ORIGIN
Robert Foster Bennett was a United States Senator and member of the Republican Party. He was born to Frances and Wallace on September 18, 1933, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Bennett attended East High School followed by the University of Utah. He graduated in 1957 with a B.S. degree in Political Science.

CAREER
Prior to politics, Bennett served on active duty in the Utah Army National Guard and later as a Chaplain. He began working on his father’s re-election campaign in 1962 and by 1963 he was a Press Secretary to congressman, Sherman P. Lloyd. Bennett later served as Director of Congressional Affairs in the Nixon Administration, a position he held until 1971. He ventured into business and had ties with the Robert Mullen Company, Summa Corporation, and Hughes Airwest. Other business ventures included Osmond Communications, American Computer Corporation, and Microsonics Corporation. He served as CEO of Franklin Quest from 1984 to 1991.

Bennett served as a United States Senator from 1993 to 2011. The Senate seat was previously held by Republican Jake Garn, who decided not to run for a fourth term. Bennett was re-elected in 1998 and again in 2004. He ran for a fourth term in 2010 but was defeated by fellow Republican, Mike Lee. During his tenure, Bennett opposed abortion and the issuance of marriage licenses to same-sex couples. He was a strong supporter of a flat tax and has voted against minimum wage increases. He received heavy criticism from the Tea Party Movement for supporting the Bush Administration’s bank bailout.

PERSONAL
Bob Bennett died on May 4, 2016, at the age of 82. He was battling pancreatic cancer and suffered a recent stroke prior to his death. Bennett was married to ‘Joyce McKay’ from 1962 until his death in 2016. They had six children, Julie, Robert, James, Wendy, Heather, and Heidi. Bennett’s net worth was estimated at $30 million back in 1993. In recent times it was estimated between minus $20 million and positive $20 million.
