Bill Nye is an American television host, engineer, comedian and science educator. He’s best known for hosting the educational program, Bill Nye the Science Guy. William Sanford Nye was born to parents Jacqueline and Edwin on November 27, 1955 in Washington, D.C. He attended Sidwell Friends School followed by Cornell University in New York. Nye graduated in 1977 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He eventually moved to Seattle where he worked as an engineer for Boeing. He developed a hydraulic pressure resonance suppressor for the Boeing 747 commercial aircraft.

CAREER
Nye started out in the entertainment industry as a writer and performer on the local sketch comedy, Almost Live!. Before long he was nicknamed “The Science Guy”. Nye made regular appearances in the animated series ‘Back to the Future’ from 1991-1993. He followed up with his own educational show, Bill Nye the Science Guy, which was aimed at a preteen audience. The show ran for five seasons on PBS Kids from 1993-1998. The success and popularity of the show earned it 19 Emmy Awards. Other shows by Nye include ‘The Eyes of Nye’, ‘Stuff Happens’ and ‘100 Greatest Discoveries’. He was a contestant on Dancing with the Stars in 2013.

As a scientist, Nye is know for aiding in the development of sundials used in the Mars Exploration Rover Missions. He was elected as vice president of The Planetary Society in 2005, a position he held until 2010. He was named executive director of the society on June 7, 2010. Nye became the face of “Bill Nye’s Climate Lab”, located at the Chabot Space & Science Center in Oakland, California. He’s also a fellow of the non-profit orginization, Committee for Skeptical Inquiry.

Bill Nye is 6ft 1in tall and has a net worth of $6.5 million. He was married to musician ‘Blair Tindall’ for seven weeks in 2006. The relationship ended after the marriage license was declared invalid. Nye has a daughter named ‘Charity’.
