ORIGIN 
Bernie Worrell was a legendary keyboardist, composer and producer. He co-founded Parliament-Funkadelic and collaborated with the band Talking Heads. Worrell was born George Bernard Worrell, Jr. on April 19, 1944 in Long Branch, New Jersey. He attended the prestigious Juilliard School followed by the New England Conservatory of Music.
CAREER
Worrell began his music career at a young age. He started playing the piano at age three, and by his eight birthday he was composing his own music. He was a member of the musical group Chubby & The Turnpikes while in college. Worrell eventually met George Clinton, founder of The Parliaments and Funkadelic. The group moved to Detroit, Michigan and became collectively known as Parliament-Funkadelic. The group’s self-titled debut album, Funkadelic, was released in 1970. They followed closely with Free Your Mind… and Your Ass Will Follow (1970), Maggot Brain (1971), and America Eats Its Young (1972). The albums Mothership Connection (1975) and One Nation Under a Groove (1978) were certified Platinum by the RIAA.
Worrell played pianos, organs, synthesizers and wrote rhythm arrangements for the group. His debut solo album, All the Woo in the World, was released in 1978 by Arista Records. The album had seven tracks and featured P-Funk members like Garry Shider, Bootsy Collins and Billy Bass Nelson. Worrell officially left P-Funk in 1981. Following his departure, he served as a session musician for the rock band Talking Heads. He contributed synthesizers to the album ‘Speaking in Tongues’ which was released in 1983. Talking Heads disbanded in 1991. Worrell also recorded with Bill Laswell, Fela Kuti, Jack Bruce and toured as a member of Bernie Worrell and the Woo Warriors. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 as a member of Parliament-Funkadelic.

Bernie Worrell died on June 24, 2016 at the age of 72. His reported cause of death was lung cancer. He was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer back in January 2016. He is survived by his wife Judie.
