Ben Simmons is an Australian-born American basketball player currently signed to the Philadelphia 76ers. He played a year of college basketball with the LSU Tigers. Simmons is 6ft 10in tall and plays the forward position. He was born to parents Dave and Julie on July 20, 1996, in Melbourne, Australia. His father played thirteen seasons in the Australian National Basketball League. Simmons has five siblings, Melissa, Emily, Liam, Sean, and Olivia. He grew up in Newcastle where he played for the Newcastle Hunters’ Under-12 team. He later played for the Knox Raiders followed by Box Hill Senior Secondary College.

CAREER
Simmons moved to Florida in 2013 and became a student at Montverde Academy. He won three consecutive National High School championship honors under the tutelage of coach Kevin Boyle. He was named the Naismith National Boys Player of the Year and the Gatorade National Player of the Year in 2015. Simmons continued his basketball career at Louisiana State University. He played with the LSU Tigers for the 2015-16 season, averaging 19.2 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 4.8 assists. He performance as an all-around player has led to comparison between him and LeBron James. Simmons was named to the All-SEC first-team and the All-American consensus first-team in 2016. He was also named the Wayman Tisdale National Freshman of the Year in 2016. Simmons declared for the 2016 NBA draft in March 2016. He was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers with the first overall pick. He suffered a fractured bone in his right foot in September 2016.
