Barbara Corcoran is an American entrepreneur, businesswoman, investor, author, and television personality. She’s the founder of The Corcoran Group, Barbara Corcoran Inc., and Barbara Corcoran Venture Partners. She is a ‘shark investor’ on the ABC reality series Shark Tank. Barbara Ann Corcoran was born on March 10, 1949, in Edgewater, New Jersey. She has 9 siblings including a brother named John. Corcoran attended St. Thomas Aquinas College in Rockland County, New York. She graduated with a Bachelor of Education degree in 1971.

CAREER
After college, Corcoran worked as a teacher for one year. She experimented with several other jobs including waitressing. Corcoran co-founded the real estate business ‘The Corcoran Group’ in 1973. She reportedly started the company with a $1,000 loan from her then-boyfriend Ramone Simone. The company blossomed over the next 25+ years. It was sold to NRT Incorporated for $66 million in 2001. Corcoran is also the founder of Barbara Corcoran Inc. and Barbara Corcoran Venture Partners. She’s a columnist for the publications, Redbook, More Magazine, The Daily Review, and the New York Daily News. She’s written a number of books including If You Don’t Have Big Breasts, Put Ribbons On Your Pigtails (2003), Nextville (2008), and Shark Tales: How I Turned $1,000 into a Billion Dollar Business (2011).

Corcoran is a ‘Shark investor’ on the reality series Shark Tank. She has invested in more than 20 businesses since the show’s inception. The series was created by Mark Burnett and it also stars Kevin O’Leary, Daymond John, Lori Greiner, Mark Cuban and Robert Herjavec. It premiered on ABC on August 9, 2009. A total of 8 seasons have been completed as of March 2017. Corcoran is a real estate contributor for NBC’s Today Show. She’s made multiple appearances on TV programs like The Nate Berkus Show, Weekend Tonight, The View, Beyond The Tank, Rachael Ray, and Good Morning America. She was named as a contestant on season 25 of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. Her professional partner is Latin/Ballroom dancer Keo Motsepe.
