Arike Ogunbowale is an American professional basketball player. She stands 5ft 8in tall and plays the point guard position for the Dallas Wings of the WNBA. Ogunbowale led Notre Dame to the 2018 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball championship. She has been featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated and on television programs like The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Additionally, she was the first active NCAA athlete to compete on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. Ogunbowale was born on March 2, 1997, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Her parents are Yolanda and Gregory Ogunbowale. They played softball and soccer/rugby respectively. She has two older brothers, Dare, and Mario. Ogunbowale attended Divine Savior Holy Angels High School followed by the University of Notre Dame. She played the piano for several years.

CAREER
Ogunbowale played soccer prior to her career as a basketball player. She won the 2009 State Cup Championship with the club FC Milwaukee. She won three more championships from 2010 to 2012 with Lake County United. Ogunbowale played in the summers for the Minnesota North Tartan. She played four seasons of varsity basketball at Divine Savior Holy Angels High School. She averaged 17.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 3.6 assists her freshman year. Her numbers improved to 22.7 points, 12.3 rebounds, and 3.8 assists her junior year. Ogunbowale led the team to a 25-2 record and a state championship her senior year (2014-15). She amassed a total of 2,240 career points at Divine Savior Holy Angels. Ogunbowale was named Gatorade State Player of the year three times from 2013 to 2015. Her high school honors include McDonald’s, Parade, USA Today, and WBCA All-American. She was named 2015 Wisconsin Miss Basketball and a finalist for the 2015 Morgan Wootten Award.

Ogunbowale continued her basketball journey at the University of Notre Dame. She played in all 35 games as a freshman (2015-16), averaging 11.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.2 assists. She became the starting guard for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish her sophomore year (2016-17). The team ended the season with a 33-4 record. Her efficiency also improved to 15.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game. Ogunbowale led the team to the 2018 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball championship. She was named as the tournament MVP after hitting back-to-back buzzer-beaters. In addition to college basketball, Ogunbowale has competed as a member of the USA National Team, and the World Championship Team. She won gold medals as a member of the U16, U17, U18, and the Youth Olympic Games. She helped the National Team secure the U23 Four Nations Tournament Title. Ogunbowale was selected by the Dallas Wings with the 5th overall pick in the 2019 WNBA Draft.

Ogunbowale is a big fan of basketball great Kobe Bryant. She wore the #24 jersey in his honor. The two appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in April 2018. Ogunbowale was named as a contestant on season 26 of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. Her professional dance partner was Gleb Savchenko. The show premiered on April 30, 2018.
