Anuel AA is a Puerto Rican rapper who specializes in Latin trap music and Reggaeton. His tracks and lyrics often portray images of sex, violence, and drugs. To many, he is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of the Latin trap genre. He quickly rose to prominence after collaborating with Bryant Myers, Anonimus, and Almighty on the hit single “Esclava.” His debut album, “Real Hasta La Muerte,” captured the number one spot on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart in less than a day. Officially named Emmanuel Gazmey Santiago, he was born on November 27, 1992, in Carolina, Puerto Rico. His father, Jose Gazmey, an established musician and businessman, was vice president of Puerto Rico’s Sony Music sector. Growing up, Anuel AA attended Colegio Maria Auxiliadora, a Catholic school located in his hometown. His father’s involvement in music certainly had a major influence on his upbringing. CAREER
In 2010, Anuel AA began pursuing rapping seriously. With the aid of social media, he started uploading music online and began creating a fan base. His work attracted serious attention and received thousands of views and feedback from fans worldwide. In 2011, with assistance from his father and fellow rapper Nengo Flow, Anuel AA released his first single “Demonia.” Soon after, he began collaborating with a host of artists including Ozuna, Arcangel, Jory Boy, and De La Ghetto, to name a few. His career leveled up, after appearing on the hit single “Esclava.” To date, the track has established a whopping 109 million views on YouTube. Anuel AA’s newfound fame and reputation caught the attention of American music mogul Rick Ross. “Ricky Rozay” would sign the artist to his Maybach Music Label. After releasing several singles and dropping a hot mixtape, in February 2016, Anuel AA’s career took a turn for the worst.

On April 3, 2016, after leaving a club, he alongside friends was arrested for illegal possession of various guns and ammunition. Initially, he was hit with 5yrs behind bars, but due to cooperation, his time was reduced to 30 months. Angry fans orchestrated a massive movement, #FreeAnuel, to see their artist freed. Despite being incarcerated, Anuel AA continued to satisfy his audience with the release of new tracks. Following his arrest, he collaborated with the likes of Bad Bunny, Nicky Jam, J Balvin and various others. In December 2016, he alongside Daddy Yankee and Wisin released the remix to one of his own single “Sola.” He also appeared on Ozuna’s 2017 hit single “Bebe.” Other notable collaborations include “Rojo” and “Liberace” with Arcangel and Farruko respectively. Anuel AA would also receive a platinum certification for his single “Ayer.”

On July 17, 2018, Anuel AA was officially released from prison. He immediately released his debut album “Real Hasta La Muerte.” The 12-track project wasted no time climbing the ranks and landed the #1 spot on the Top Latina Album charts. On a collective scale, the artist has already racked up over 500 million views on YouTube alone. In recent projects, Anuel AA partnered with Tekashi69 on single “Bebe.” One of his most successful collaborations to date, the music video has already received upwards of 270 million views on YouTube in 1 month. Anuel AA recently released the single “Que Seria.”

Anuel AA’s hot single, Secreto, alongside Karol G, has accumulated over 200 million streams in 3 weeks. The two will be touring in 2019.
