Anthony Rapp is an American stage/film actor and singer. He starred as “Mark Cohen” in the Broadway musical Rent, and as “Paul Stamets” in the CBS series Star Trek: Discovery. His stage credits include If/Then, and You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. He’s appeared in films like The Other Woman (2009), Road Trip (2000), and A Beautiful Mind (2001). Anthony Deane Rapp was born on October 26, 1971, in Chicago, Illinois. He has two siblings, Adam and Anne. His mother Mary Lee died of cancer in 1997. She was 55. Rapp attended Joliet West High School and Interlochen Arts Camp. He also studied at New York University.

CAREER
Rapp began his career as a stage actor. At age 6 he was cast as the “Cowardly Lion” in a summer camp production of The Wizard of Oz. He also won a number of awards for his singing during junior high school. Rapp was set to make his Broadway debut in a 1981 production of The Little Prince and the Aviator. However, the show was shut down during previews. His Broadway debut came a few years later in Precious Sons (1986). That role earned him a Drama Desk Award for outstanding actor in a musical. Rapp originated the role of “Mark Cohen” in the 1996 Broadway production of Rent. The role was reprised in Chris Columbus’s 2005 film adaptation of the same name. Rapp was cast as “Charlie Brown” in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown (1999), and as “Lucas” in If/Then (2014). His stage credits also include Six Degrees of Separation, Henry V, Little Shop of Horrors, and Without You.

Rapp made his film debut in Adventures in Babysitting (1987) starring Elisabeth Shue. Other early films include School Ties (1992) with Brendan Fraser, Dazed and Confused (1993) with Matthew McConaughey, and Twister (1996) with Bill Paxton. Rapp was cast as “Jacob Schultz” in Todd Phillips’ comedy, Road Trip (2000). He had a supporting role as “Bender” opposite Russell Crowe in A Beautiful Mind (2001). His more recent films include The Other Woman (2009) and Junction (2012). He currently stars as lieutenant “Paul Stamets” on the CBS series Star Trek: Discovery (2017-). He had a recurring role as “Larry Kellogg” on the short-lived NBC series Kidnapped (2006-07). Other television appearances include The X-Files, Law & Order: SVU, Spin City, and Psych.

In addition to acting, Rapp is a singer and author. He creates music with his band Albinokid. His debut studio album, Look Around, was released in October 2000. He was featured on the original cast recording of Rent, and If/Then. Rap’s autobiography, Without You: A Memoir of Love, Loss, and the Musical Rent, was published in 2006 by Simon & Schuster.
