Amy Schumer is an American stand-up comedian and actress. She’s best known for the award winning sketch comedy series, Inside Amy Schumer. Her film credits include the 2015 summer hit, Trainwreck. Schumer was born to parents Sandra and Gordon on June 1, 1981 in Manhattan, New York. She has two siblings, Kimberly and Jason. She’s the cousin of Chuck Schumer, a U.S. Senator from New York. Schumer attended South Side High School followed by Towson University. She graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor’s degree in theater. She continued her studies at William Esper Studio in New York City for two years.
CAREER
Schumer worked as a bartender and waitress prior to her career in comedy. She made her stand-up debut in 2004 at the Gotham Comedy Club in NYC. Schumer was featured on the television programs, ‘Live at Gotham’, ‘ Last Comic Standing’, and ‘Reality Bites Back’. Her debut stand-up album, Cutting, was released in 2011. She followed up with the Comedy Central special ‘Mostly Sex Stuff’ in 2012. Schumer held a recurring role as “Trish” on the third season of Delocated (2012). She also had a bit role as “Lacey” in the film ‘Seeking a Friend for the End of the World (2012)’ with Steve Carell.
In 2013, Schumer created and hosted her own sketch comedy series, Inside Amy Schumer. The show premiered on Comedy Central in April 2013. It was renewed for a fifth season in January 2016. Schumer won an Emmy Award in 2015 for Outstanding Variety sketch series. The show also won a Peabody and a Writers Guild of America Award. Schumer starred as “Amy Townsend” in the comedy-film, Trainwreck (2015). The film was directed by Judd Apatow and co-starred by Bill Hader and Brie Larson.
