Alan Rickman was an English actor, director and producer known for his antagonist roles in films like ‘Die Hard’ and ‘Harry Potter’. He was born on February 21, 1946 in Acton, West London. He excelled at the arts and was awarded a scholarship to Latymer Upper School in London. He went on to study graphic design at Chelsea College of Art and Design followed by the Royal College of Art. He co-created the successful graphic design studio, Graphiti, which ran for three years. He was enrolled in the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art from 1972-1974. He became a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1978.

Rickman played the lead role of “Le Vicomte de Valmont” in the 1985 play ‘Les Liaisons Dangereuses’. His acting earned him several award nominations including a Tony and a Drama Desk Award. He played “Hans Gruber” in Die Hard (1988) and was awarded a Golden Globe and an Emmy for his role in Rasputin: Dark Servant of Destiny (1996).
