ORIGIN
Ajit Pai is an American attorney, business executive, and member of the Republican Party. He’s known for his stance against net neutrality in the United States. His current title is that of Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Prior to that, he worked with the Department of Justice and with Verizon Communications. Ajit Varadaraj Pai was born on January 10, 1973, in Buffalo, New York. His parents are Varadaraj and Radha, a urologist and an anesthesiologist. He was raised in Parsons, Kansas, where he attended Parsons Senior High School. Pai earned his BA degree in social studies from Harvard University (1994) and his JD from the University of Chicago Law School (1997). He served as an editor for the University of Chicago Law Review.

CAREER
Pai began his legal career at the office of judge Martin Leach-Cross Feldman for the Eastern District of Louisiana. His next job was in the Antitrust Division at the United States Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. He served there as an attorney in the telecommunications sector from 1998 to 2001. Pai joined Verizon Communications Inc. in 2001 as Associate General Counsel. He held that position until early 2003. He’s since worked with the Department of Justice (Office of Legal Policy), and with the Senate judiciary committee (advisor to Jeff Sessions and Sam Brownback).

Pai worked in various positions at the FCC’s Office of General Counsel starting in 2007. Most notably, he served as a supervisor to lawyers in the Administrative Law Division. He was selected as a Marshall Memorial Fellow for 2011. Pai worked with the law firm ‘Jenner & Block’ from 2011 to 2012. He was nominated to the Federal Communications Commission by President Barack Obama in 2012. He was recommended for the job by fellow Republican Mitch McConnell. Pai’s position was elevated to Chairman of the FCC under President Donald Trump‘s administration. He was sworn into office on January 23, 2017. He became the first Indian American to hold said office. Pai is against net neutrality in the United States. He voted in December 2017, to reverse internet regulation under Title II of the Communications Act of 1934.

Ajit Pai is about 5ft 10in tall and he’s of Indian descent. He currently resides in Arlington, Virginia. The average annual salary for an FCC Chairman is $450,000. Pai wed board-certified allergist ‘Janine Van Lancker’ in July 2010. They have two children, Annabelle Malathi and Alexander Madhav.
